Mon, May 21 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, NCS, on Thursday issued a stringent order banning the export, import and transportation of live pigs and pig-related products from Mon district to other districts, outside the state, as well as any import into Mon from other districts or outside the state.

The order follows a confirmed report of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in certain areas of Nagaland, including adjoining districts.

In an order issued with immediate effect, the DC stated that the disease is a highly contagious viral disease, which poses a serious threat to pig populations, “requiring immediate preventive and containment measures to stop further transmission.”

The DC informed all citizens of Mon that it has become necessary to regulate and restrict the movement, export, and import of pigs and pig-related products from Mon district and import from outside the district in the interest of public safety, animal health and disease containment.

Therefore, exercising the powers conferred under relevant provisions of law, the DC has ordered that export, import and transportation of live pigs from Mon district to other districts and outside the state, and import from other districts and outside the state, has been prohibited until further orders.

No person, trader, transporter, firm or association shall transport, export, import or facilitate movement of pigs from Mon district and to Mon district without prior clearance and certification from the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services.

There shall be a total ban on the sale of pork in the entire district until such time as ASF is neutralized. Any pig found exhibiting symptoms of ASF, including sudden death, high fever, weakness, skin discolouration, or abnormal behaviour, shall immediately be reported to the nearest veterinary authority. Slaughter, sale, or transportation of suspected infected pigs is strictly prohibited.

All check gates, police personnel, veterinary officials and administrative officers shall strictly monitor and enforce this order. Village councils, ward authorities, GBs (Gaon Buras), and public leaders are directed to cooperate fully with the district administration and veterinary department in surveillance, reporting, and containment measures.

The DC warned that any person violating this order shall be liable for penal action under relevant provisions of law, including the Disaster Management Act, epidemic-related regulations, and other applicable laws. This order shall remain in force until further orders. The order was issued on May 21.
