Niuland, February 26 (MExN): A meeting between the District Administration, police officials and civil society organisations (CSOs) under Niuland district was held on February 25 at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office to discuss amendments to Section IV of the Rules for Administration of Justice and Police (Fifth Amendment), 2025.
Representatives of Western Sumi Hoho, Yimkhiung Arihako and the Niuland District GBs Association attended the meeting.
The members held a threadbare discussion on the provisions of the Fifth Amendment and deliberated on the structure and provisions of the Customary Courts. The house agreed to submit suggestions and feedback to the government for necessary consideration.
Deputy Commissioner Niuland, Sara S Jamir, directed administrative officers to conduct sensitisation programmes on the functions and powers of Village Councils and Customary Courts, particularly on the scope of their jurisdiction under the Rules for Administration of Justice and Police and the Village and Area Councils Act, 1978.
The meeting concluded with a consensus to ensure greater clarity and awareness on the roles and responsibilities of traditional and statutory bodies in the district.
