Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, who also holds National Highway portfolio, on Monday inspected the road damaged portion on NH -29 along Kezanu & Kimho and Kegwiizha/Liezocha site and assured to take up immediate and long-term measures to restore the road.
Talking to media persons at the site, Zeliang informed that the state government has sanctioned emergency works for diversion of a 250-metre stretch at Kezanu &Kimho while estimates for the affected portion at Kegwiizha/Liezocha are being prepared for submission to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
He said the Centre has sanctioned Rs 19 crore for blacktopping the 12.6 km stretch from Jotsoma Junction to Lerie, while the state government has allocated an additional Rs 4 crore.
Another Rs 2 crore has been released by the Centre for immediate repairs works.
Tendering processes for these works are nearing completion, he said.
On long-term solutions, the Deputy CM emphasized the need for alternative routes to avoid sinking zones. He pointed out that permanent measures would require hillside earth cutting and land acquisition in consultation with local landowners and village councils.
“We cannot fight nature, but we can avoid vulnerable stretches by creating alternative bypass routes,” Zeliang said.
