Dimapur, March 3 (MExN): In a major breakthrough in a brutal murder case involving a minor, Dimapur Police have secured the conviction and sentencing of an accused, more than five years after the crime. The Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) in Dimapur has sentenced Yilobemo Mozhui to life imprisonment for the murder of a 17-year-old girl in 2020.
According to Dy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, Dimapur, the case dates back to October 22, 2020, when the body of the minor victim was discovered at the St Clare Higher Secondary School ground in Kachari Gaon (Phevima).
Upon receipt of the report, Women Police Station, Dimapur, registered Case No. 32/2020 with Ketoukhrielie Metha, NPS ACP Dimapur as the Investigating Officer (IO) and DCP Zone II Aotula T Imchen, IPS as the supervisory Officer.
The investigative team conducted a meticulous inquiry, collecting substantial oral, documentary and forensic evidence to build a strong prosecution case. A prima facie charge under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 206 of the IPC, read with relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, was established against the accused.
During the trial, Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Imlimongla effectively presented the evidence before the court, establishing that the accused had committed the murder.
After a thorough trial, the court of Special Judge Khesheli Chishi found the evidence compelling and held the prosecution had proven the charge of murder against Yilobemo Mozhui beyond reasonable doubt. The court pronounced the sentence, awarding life imprisonment to the convict for the heinous crime on March 2, 2026.
Dimapur Police have commended the efforts of the former Investigating Officer Ketoukhrielie Metha and the entire team of Women Police Station, Dimapur, for their pivotal role in the prompt registration and sensitive handling of the sensitive case. “This conviction underscores the commitment of Dimapur Police to ensuring justice for victims of crimes against women and children and to bringing offenders to justice,” the PRO asserted.
