DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 (MExN): The Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union (DRSU) has condemned the assault on a Class 10 student of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) in Kohima that left the victim with life-threatening injuries.
The DRSU said the student was subjected to a “premeditated and violent attack by fellow students,” which resulted in “severe internal injuries, including a ruptured stomach and subsequent peritonitis.” The union said the victim had to undergo emergency surgery and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), “battling for his life.”
“This was not a mere act of bullying, but a calculated and heinous assault that has had devastating consequences,” the union said.
Calling the act “barbaric,” the student body said that violence of this nature “has no place in any civilized society, especially within educational institutions meant to foster a safe and nurturing environment for students.”
The DRSU also expressed disappointment over the silence of other student groups in Nagaland. “We are particularly troubled by the lack of public condemnation from other student organizations in the state even after two weeks of the incident,” it said.
The union urged all stakeholders—educational institutions, civil society groups, and student bodies—to “collectively denounce this act of violence and stand in solidarity against such atrocities.”
It called on authorities to “conduct a swift and thorough investigation into this incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” and demanded that “stringent action be taken against those found guilty, in accordance with the law, to serve as a deterrent against future acts of violence.”
“At this critical juncture, our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family,” the union added. “The DRSU extends its full support and stands ready to provide any assistance necessary during this difficult time.”
