Jalukie, April 17 (MExN): Governor Nand Kishore Yadav attended the Xavierite Academic Closing Day for the 2025–2026 session at St Xavier College, Jalukie, Peren on April 17, where speakers pointed to the institution’s role in expanding access to higher education in the district.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said institutions such as St Xavier College contribute to shaping “responsible citizens with strong values, discipline, and a spirit of service.” He described the occasion as a point of reflection on the academic year, adding that “every challenge and milestone” contributes to student growth.
Stating that education goes beyond marks and degrees, he said it also involves “character building, compassion, leadership, and meaningful contribution to society,” and urged students to pursue excellence with humility and integrity. He also acknowledged the role of teachers and parents in guiding students.
Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang, who also addressed the programme, referred to the college as the only private higher education institution in Peren district. He noted its enrolment strength and said it reflects the trust placed in the institution by the public.
Zeliang highlighted the college’s NAAC Grade A accreditation with a CGPA of 3.12 and referred to initiatives such as the Earn and Learn programme and Payback Award. He also spoke on vocational courses and skill-based training, stating that such programmes improve employability.
He further noted student participation in national-level events, including the National Youth Parliament, Republic Day Parade, National Games, and archery championships, and acknowledged the institution’s sports infrastructure.
The programme included cultural performances, a presentation titled “Tamasyoma Gyotir Gamaya,” and the commissioning of Sadbhavana projects. It concluded with a vote of thanks followed by a photo session and a “Know Your Army” outreach by Assam Rifles.
