Exclusion of non-Naga tribes from jobs reflects policy failure: RPP

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) on Tuesday criticised the state government over the exclusion of non-Naga indigenous tribes from the recently announced police recruitment drive, alleging continued marginalisation of minority communities.

In a statement issued here, the RPP appreciated the government’s decision to open 1,176 posts of police constables through an “open rally” recruitment. However, it expressed disappointment that the notification dated September 30, 2025, invited applications only from candidates belonging to the Indigenous Naga Tribes of Nagaland.

“The omission of Non-Naga Indigenous Tribes from such job opportunities reflects poorly upon the policymakers of the state,” the party said, terming the move as part of a “larger malaise” linked to quota distribution in Nagaland.

It further pointed out that while public discourse often revolves around the review, revocation or dilution of the backward quota, “only a few speak up for the inclusion of the most marginalised communities, the Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitants, who, above everyone else, deserve the backward quota the most.”

The party urged the state government to ensure that “the politics of the majority do not victimize the livelihood and dignity of the non-Naga tribal minorities.”
