Socunoma, March 5 (MExN): A farmers’ training-cum-input distribution programme was conducted at the IPM Model Village in Socunoma under Chümoukedima district on March 5, where farmers were trained on various aspects of integrated pest and disease management in vegetable crops.
The programme was organised by the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (SAS- NU), Medziphema Campus, under the project “Establishment of Crop-Based Model IPM Villages for Promotion of Integrated Pest Management Technologies in NEH Region of India,” funded by the ICAR–National Research Institute of Integrated Pest Management (ICAR–NRIIPM), New Delhi, stated a press release.
Prof Bireswar Sinha, Project Incharge and Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology, SAS-NU, delivered a lecture on integrated disease management in vegetables and highlighted the importance of adopting eco-friendly disease control practices.
Major diseases affecting vegetable crops as well as their identification and management through IDM approaches were shared by Dr Hijam Meronbola Devi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology.
Dr Hemanta, Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture, spoke on improved vegetable cultivation practices, including crop mulching and plant protection methods while Project Assistant Dr Bendangsenla Longkumer demonstrated the use of biopesticides in vegetable crops and conducted a hands-on training session for the participating farmers.
Agricultural inputs such as neem oil, yellow sticky traps, Trichoderma, biofertilisers, Beauveria bassiana, phosphate solubilising bacteria (PSB), VAM, and Verticillium lecanii were distributed to farmers of the adopted village, the release said.
It concluded with a vote of thanks by Pelelhoutuo Hozoyeh of Socunoma village, it added.
