GPRN/NSCN (Unification) asks public not to be misled

DIMAPUR, MARCH 28 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN (Unification) today issued a statement regarding what it termed as “misinformation concerning the Naga Army.” A press release from the MIP of the GPRN/NSCN (Unification) asked the public “not to be misled by the statement disseminated on March 24, 2025 by some unauthorized anonymous individuals purportedly claiming as the Naga Army of the GPRN/NSCN (Unification).”

“This statement serves as clarification that GPRN/NSCN (Unification) has not revoked the Tatar Hoho's decision of April 21, 2024. N Kitovi Zhimomi remains impeached and divested of his position as Ato Kilonser/General Secretary of the GPRN/NSCN (Unification). Consequently, he has been expelled from the organization,” it stated.

It claimed that General Samson Aye continues to hold the position of the Commander-in-Chief of Naga Army, GPRN/NSCN (Unification). It added that the Naga Army, GPRN/NSCN (Unification) “has not granted authorization to any individual(s) to issue statements on its behalf.”

“A small group of middle ranking Naga army cadres, with vested interest and sophisticated weaponry in collusion with Kitovi’s boys, with an excuse of rejoining GPRN/NSCN (Unification) forcibly entered Khehoyi Camp. They have effectively placed GPRN/NSCN (Unification)’s President Gen. (Retd.) MB Neokpao Konyak under duress. To preclude any potential for bloodshed or violence, the army unit assigned to the President's security detail has been instructed to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from provocative actions,” it said.

The statement further maintained that “the manner in which Gen. (Retd.) MB Neokpao Konyak is being confined within Khehoyi Camp and subjected to pressure by Kitovi Zhimomi and his associates, disregarding his age and status, is deplorable.”

It stated that “their objective of coercing a reversal of the April 21, 2024 impeachment of N Kitovi Zhimomi and reinstating the conditions of October 31, 2022, is inconsistent with the established practices of any Naga tribe.”

The statement further termed it inappropriate for any army cadre(s) to address matters pertaining to Naga peace talks and the political solution through such means. “These matters are not subject to military authority or coercion. The Agreed Position of November 17, 2017, between the Government of India (GoI) and the Working Committee (WC) of the NNPGs was translated into a political agreement on October 31, 2019. These matters are now under the purview of the GoI,” it said.

It noted that the political agreement reached between the GoI and the WC, NNPGs, pertains to the entire Naga community. “Any signing of an accord or agreement with the GoI must be a collective decision involving Naga political groups, tribal bodies, the GB Federation, civil society members and the elected governments of the respective states,” the statement maintained.

It reiterated that “N Kitovi Zhimomi was impeached and expelled from the GPRN/NSCN (U) due to corrupt practices, misuse of arms and ammunition, criminal acts of extortion, and antagonism towards political parties, other tribes, and the business community. He cannot be reinstated without providing a comprehensive and satisfactory explanation for these actions.”

While appreciating the initiative taken by various civil societies, NGOs, Tribal bodies, etc for their effort to foster peace and harmony, the GPRN/NSCN (Unification) said it is “steadfastly committed for reconciliation and unity of Naga political groups.”
