PHEK/PEREN/WOKHA, MARCH 26 (MExN): Health Melas were organized across various districts in Nagaland over the past week, providing free medical services to underserved communities and raising awareness on key health issues.

In Phek District, Block Health Melas were held at Thetsumi under the Pfutsero Block on March 21 and at Akhegwo under the Meluri Block on March 22. The events aimed to provide free medical services to remote areas with limited access to healthcare and promote preventive health measures. 

A total of 213 patients were screened for a range of health issues, including maternal and child health, family planning, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), dental care, physiotherapy, and AYUSH services. Blood tests for HIV/AIDS, syphilis, hepatitis, scrub typhus, and blood grouping were also conducted.

In addition, educational sessions were held on topics such as maternal health, child health, NCDs, family planning, and PMJAY. Twelve antenatal care (ANC) screenings were conducted, and 19 PMJAY/CMHIS cards were issued. 

The health camp was led by the following medical officers- Dr Pangertemsu (Gynecology & Obstetrics, DH Phek), Dr Limanukshi (Medicine, SMO Meluri), Dr Ngailong L. Phom (Dental), Dr Visino Nyusou (AYUSH), Dr Martin, Dr Kulo, Dr Rukuwe, Dr Meweu Mero (Dental), Dr Thejanuo, along with lab technicians and nurses from the CHCs.

Meanwhile, Peren District hosted its own Health Mela in Nkialwa and Lilen villages under the Tening and Jalukie Blocks on March 18 and 25, respectively. A total of 239 patients were treated during the event, with services including general check-ups, dental care, pediatric consultations, ophthalmic services, ANC check-ups, vaccinations, and screenings for NCDs and HIV.

In addition to medical services, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) were conducted on topics like child health, maternal health, family planning, and household hygiene. Nutritional packages were distributed to pregnant and lactating mothers, and health awareness pamphlets were shared with attendees. 

The health team was led by Dr K. Limatula Ao, CMO; Dr Lanuakum Aier, Dy CMO; Dr Keholi, DTO; Dr. Valentina Neikha, DPO (RCH & UIP); Dr Hedungkiebe, SMO; Dr Meningsiliu Rentta, Obs & Gynea, DH Peren; Dr Gloria, Dental, Jalukie CHC; along with DPM, BPM, ASHA Coordinators, IEC Bureau, CHO, Nurses, Lab Technicians, Ophthalmic Assistants, and supporting staff from NVBDCP, NTEP, and DAPCU.

In Wokha District, a Block Health Mela was organized at Pangti village on March 26 under the aegis of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland. The event provided general medical check-ups, eye screenings, dental screenings, ANC check-ups, NCD screenings, and PM-JAY/CMHIS card generation, among other services. 

A total of 130 people registered for OPD services, and free medicines were provided. Focus Group Discussions and interpersonal communication sessions were held by the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) staff on maternal health, child health, family planning, and adolescent health. IEC materials were also distributed to raise awareness about various health topics. The Health Mela was supported by ASHAs, community leaders, and members of Pangti village.

The Block Health Mela, organized by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kohima, was held at the Kandinu Village Ayush Health and Wellness Centre. A total of 209 patients registered and received treatments. Various medical professionals, including a pediatrician, gynecologist, dentist, ENT specialist, AYUSH practitioners, dermatologist and general medicine practitioners, were present to provide care.

In addition, AB-PMJAY/CMHIS and ABHA card registrations, along with various tests, including blood grouping, were offered to the participants.

During the formal function, Dr. Laemnyei Konyak, CMO Kohima, praised the Kandi group for their strong community spirit and their willingness to support the government health facility.
