The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) in association with CMO Kohima and Urban UPHC Seikhazou today conducted Free Medical Camp as part of “Safaimitra Suraksha Shivir” programme at New Supermarket Complex, KMC.

“SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivir” is a health and welfare camp for sanitation workers, or "SafaiMitras," in India, aimed at providing preventive healthcare, physical fitness checks, linkages to government welfare schemes, and access to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The camp offered general health check up, Hepatitis B vaccination, TB screening, HIV test and syphilis test.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits was also distributed to sanitation workers.

The initiative was part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2025, emphasising the protection of frontline sanitation staff.

Talking to the media persons, Dr. M. Nukshisangla Jamir, Joint Director, Nagaland State AIDS Control Society and Nodal Officer of the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme, said the camp provided a long-awaited opportunity to vaccinate sanitation workers against Hepatitis B.

“Sanitation workers are highly vulnerable to infectious diseases like Hepatitis B and C. This camp is an important step in protecting them, and it also includes HIV testing, which is crucial given our state’s high HIV prevalence rate,” she stated.

Dr. Jamir added that the second and third doses of the Hepatitis B vaccine will be administered in the coming months to ensure full coverage.

Neilhouphre Paphino, Chief Inspector of KMC acknowledged the collaboration of the CMO Kohima and Urban PHC Seikhazou towards this medical camp.

“Through this camp, all our sanitary workers, sweepers, and drivers are availing free medical services under Swachhata Hi Seva 2025,” he said.

Meanwhile, an Outreach activities for the "Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan" (Healthy Woman, Empowered Family Campaign) was also conducted today, which is a joint initiative of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the Ministry of Women and Child Development and National Health Mission, Nagaland.
