KZK, KKYO condemn death threat against NMA advisor

Kohima, September 30 (MExN): The Kewhimia Zhavipfuko Krotho (KZK) and the Kuda Kewhimia Youth Organization (KKYO) have issued separate statements condemning the recent death threat issued against Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü, Advisor to the Naga Mother’s Association (NMA), calling it an attack on fundamental rights and an attempt to silence voices of truth and justice.

In its statement signed by President Pekruze0 Daisy Meztair and General Secretary Asabu Liezietsu, KZK said, “We, the undersigned Kewhimia Zhavipfuko Krotho (KZK), strongly condemn the recent death threat issued against Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü, a distinguished women's rights activist, academic, and a leader in Gender and Indigenous rights. Such act of intimidation is not only a direct attack on Dr. Dzüvichü’s personal safety but also a broader assault on the fundamental rights of women, human rights defenders, and advocates for peace and justice.”

KZK described Dr Dzüvichü as “a tireless voice for gender equity, indigenous rights, and peaceful dialogue” whose leadership “has opened doors for countless women and marginalized communities to engage meaningfully in political and social processes.” It added, “Threatening her life is an attempt to silence that voice and by extension, the voices of many others fighting for dignity and equality.”

The organization called on civil societies, women's organizations, political leaders and tribal communities to stand in solidarity with Dr Dzüvichü and to reject violence, intimidation and repression. “Silencing dissent through fear and threats has no place in a democratic society. We reaffirm our commitment to uphold the rights and freedom of every individual especially those who courageously stand in the frontline for transformative change,” it stated.

The KKYO, in a separate condemnation letter, said it “unequivocally condemns the recent death threat directed towards Naga Mother’s Association (NMA) advisor Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü. Such acts of intimidation and violence are deeply disturbing and have no place in a democratic and civilized society.”

The youth body further stated, “Threatening the life of any individual is not only a criminal act but also an assault on the fundamental rights of safety, dignity and freedom of expression. Violence and intimidation have no place in our society. Death threats are cowardly attempt to silent voices of truth and justice. But let it be clear: we will not be silenced. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü, offering our full support and solidarity.”

KKYO demanded that the Government and law enforcement authorities take urgent action to investigate the incident and hold the perpetrator accountable. “No one should have to fear for their life because of their identity, beliefs or work. As an organization, we believe in courage over fear, dialogue over division and justice over oppression. Now more than ever, we must come together to reject hate, protect one another and create a society where every person can speak, live and dream without threats or violence,” it said.

It also called on citizens, leaders and organizations “to ensure that threats and intimidation are never tolerated and that every individual can live free from fear. Together we rise against intimidation. Together we choose peace, justice and solidarity.”
