Wokha, August 19 (MExN): The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU), Lotha Youth Hoho and Lotha Eloe Hoho have opposed the reinstatement appeal of former Nagaland University Professor Dr Sarat Chandra Yenisetti, urging the university to conclude the pending disciplinary matter before taking any decision on his reinstatement.
In a representation to the Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, the three organisations said the matter arose from a “serious incident” involving former professor and subsequent proceedings, with representations submitted to the concerned authorities as early as 2024.
The organisations expressed concern that the matter remained unresolved despite the passage of considerable time, while an appeal seeking his reinstatement to his former position was now being pursued.
They said they recognised the need for due process and careful consideration by the competent authorities, but urged the university to ensure that the underlying disciplinary matter, the proceedings undertaken and concerns raised by the student community were addressed before any reinstatement decision.
The bodies also said they had taken cognisance of a representation submitted by the Lotha Randan Khumshum (LRK) to the Nagaland University Students’ Union-Lumami seeking intervention in the matter. They expressed support for the concerns raised by the student community and called for their “serious, fair, and timely consideration”.
The representation urged the Vice Chancellor and competent authorities to bring the pending disciplinary matter to a “fair and reasoned conclusion” in accordance with applicable rules and procedures. It also called for all representations submitted since 2024, along with the circumstances and proceedings surrounding the matter, to be duly considered before a decision is taken on the reinstatement appeal.
The organisations stressed that their representation was not intended to interfere with due process or prejudge the outcome of any proceeding, but sought timely action, institutional accountability and due consideration of the concerns raised by students.
They further warned that failure to consider the representation and the concerns raised could prompt them to pursue further measures through relevant institutional, administrative and lawful mechanisms, including approaching higher authorities concerned with the administration and functioning of the university.
