The Mokokchung Photography Club (MPC) observed World Photography Day 2026 under the theme "Home" at the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) Conference Hall on Wednesday.
Attending the programme as the guest of honour, Imtiyapangla, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Mokokchung, highlighted photography as a vital tool for preserving heritage, documenting societal shifts, and safeguarding local culture. She urged youth to look beyond government employment and pursue sustainable livelihoods in fields such as weddings, events, portraiture, fashion, sports, real estate, tourism, stock photography, and cultural documentation.

Emphasising the need for entrepreneurship, she encouraged emerging photographers to build robust portfolios, master editing and marketing, and establish digital footprints, while urging veteran practitioners to mentor emerging talent.
Longrangty Longchar, founding member of the MPC, reflected on the club's trajectory since its inception in 2011 at the Mokokchung Press Club office. He recalled the organization's initial capacity-building workshops focused on lighting and composition, alongside innovative grassroots initiatives like matchbox-camera projects and the "Morung Camera" showcase during the Moatsu festival.

The event featured a photo exhibition from the MPC gallery and a themed mobile photography competition that drew 66 entries.
In the Mobile Photography Competition, Odichuba Ozukum of Sungkomen secured the first place, follwoeed by Akangkokba of Ungma Village in the second position, while Tekatemjen Walling of Süngratsü Village bagged the third place.
The competition was sponsored by Block Development Officers (BDOs) Aienla Jamir (Tuli), Er. Wainungla Walling (Kobulong), and Lanutemjen (Chuchuyimlang and Changtonya). The jury comprised Imcha Jamir (Photography Club Dimapur), Ashwini Barkataki (Canon Mentor), and Bondeep Khound (Canon SSO).
