A major fire broke out in Noklak Village, resulting in the complete destruction of several homes and properties. The fire occurred in Sumao Kam (Sumao Ward) of the village on the evening of March 29.
According to officials from the Fire Station in Noklak, the blaze damaged approximately five households completely, while two others were partially affected. Additionally, a Morung was also damaged in the fire. Among the affected properties, one was a two-story wooden house, while the others were made of tin sheets and bamboo.
The fire reportedly started before 4 pm, but the fire department received the call at approximately 4:06 pm. Despite being located around 3 kilometers away from the incident site, fire personnel arrived at the scene at 4:12 pm, bringing two fire tenders and 16 fire department staff. They were joined by local villagers, nearby residents, NGOs, and Assam Rifles personnel, who assisted in extinguishing the flames.
The fire took over two hours to control, and while no casualties were reported, the damage was significant. Fire officials estimated the property loss at approximately Rs 1.6 crore, with an additional Rs 50,000 belonging to an individual also being destroyed in the blaze.
The quick response from the public and various departments was credited with preventing further damage to the surrounding areas, given the close proximity of the affected homes. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, based on statements from local villagers.
