Mengu village issues resolutions on land use, education & development

MENGU VILLAGE, MARCH 30 (MExN): The Mengu Village Council in Chümoukedima district held its annual general meeting on March 29 at the Government Primary School, deliberating on issues related to village recognition and development.

During the meeting, the council passed several resolutions, including directives on land use, education, and infrastructure development.

All land and plot holders were directed to construct houses on their respective plots by Dec. 31, 2025. Failure to do so will result in the council, in consultation with advisors and senior members, identifying the land and initiating necessary procedures as per village regulations outlined in the holding certificate.

The council also resolved to identify and cancel land holdings that have been left unattended for several years. Owners of such plots will have no further claims once the process is completed, and landholders were urged to develop their properties at the earliest.

In an effort to promote education, the village mandated that all children in Class 4 and below residing within its jurisdiction must enroll in the village school. Non-compliance will result in stern action from the village council. To encourage enrollment, the council also announced a one-time cash incentive for students admitted during the 2025 academic session.

Additionally, funds will be raised for the construction of culverts, road maintenance, and the development of a new approach road to the village cemetery.

The council reiterated its earlier ban on keeping sophisticated arms for hunting or other purposes by caretakers. Burning jungles, hunting, and collecting forest products within the village jurisdiction remain strictly prohibited, with violators to be dealt with according to the law.

Speaking at the meeting, village advisor KT Vilie shared a brief history of Mengu Village and urged members to remember the legacy of its founder, the late TL Angami, whose vision and sacrifices led to the village's establishment. He called upon villagers to contribute sincerely to its development.

The meeting began with an invocation by Kekhrievo-ü Yhome, assistant pastor of CRC High School Area, Kohima, and concluded with a mass prayer led by Arila, director of Devine Prayer Home.
