Augmenting the health care delivery system, the Nagabazar Sub-Centre building was inaugurated today for the residents of Nagabazar ward, Kohima.

This Sub-Centre building, constructed under health grants of 15th Finance Commission's 2021-2022, was inaugurated by Dr N Leamnyei Konyak, Chief Medical Officer, Kohima.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Leamnyei described the inauguration of this newly upgraded Sub-Centre as a renewed pledge of care and a beacon of hope for accessible and affordable healthcare.

He was optimistic that this centre will serve as a shining model for universal health coverage.

Established in 1987, this Centre has a dedicated team of eight professionals--comprising two ANMs, a dresser, a vaccinator, and four medical attendants.

Dr. Leamnyei urged the staff to serve the people with the utmost dedication, empathy and honesty.

This centre is designed to provide comprehensive preventive and promotive healthcare, right at your doorstep, he said adding that the Centre will offer twelve essential packages, encompassing care in pregnancy and childbirth, Neonatal, Infant, Childhood, and Adolescent Health, Family Planning and Reproductive Services, Management of Communicable and Non-communicable Diseases, Care for Common Ophthalmic, ENT, and Oral Health needs, Elderly, Palliative and Mental Health Services, emergency medical services, including trauma and burns.

The Centre is equipped with 12 essential pieces of equipment and offers 14 essential diagnostic services.

Furthermore, under the Government of India's 'Free Drug Service,' 106 essential medicines will be available completely free of cost, Dr. Leamnyei informed.

Encouraging the community to take ownership of this centre in consonance with the enactment of the Nagaland Communitization of Public Institutions & Service Act in 2022,  he also sought the moral support of the community towards effective functioning of the centre.

Stating that healthcare is a fundamental right enshrined under Article 21, he said “the department is deeply committed to providing the best possible service to the community.”

Further, Dr. Leamnyei called upon the community to work together in building a healthier and stronger community.

‘Protect, utilize and support this centre’
Zeneivonuo Nakhro, councillor (Ward 4- Nagabazar), Kohima Municipal Council, expressed happiness that the Nagabazar sub-centre brings essential health services directly to the heart of the community, which can bring more enhanced and improved health care systems to the colony.

She said that a sub-centre represents the foundational bedrock of public health infrastructure and serves as the very first point of contact between families and the primary healthcare system.

“This centre will deliver the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) "Minimum Assured Services". Healthcare will no longer be an exhausting journey into the city; it will be an accessible reality right here in our colony,” she said.

Nakhro urged upon the public to protect, utilize and support this centre.

Bring your children for vaccinations, accompany expectant mothers for regular check-ups, and seek advice for minor ailments before they turn into major health crisis, she said.

Let this Centre become a vibrant hub for community health education and wellness, Nakhro added.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Neiba Bio, secretary, Nagabazar Panchayat while  Pastor Ruokuowhelie Pienyii, Upper Nagabazar Baptist Church invoked God’s blessings.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Thinuowhelhou Kire, chairman, Nagabazar Panchayat, Kohima.
