Nagaland’s Chief Minister Tug- of War team at World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan.
Kohima, September 4 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister’s Tug-of-War team, representing India at the 6th World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan, secured sixth place in the Classic Tug-of-War World Championship.
The Games are being held from August 31 to September 6 in Bishkek and Cholpon-Ata, with athletes from more than 100 countries competing in 43 traditional sports.
The 10-member Nagaland team, competing under the banner of the Nagaland Chief Minister’s Tug-of-War Team, marked India’s maiden participation in the discipline at the World Nomad Games.
Led by captain Vechita Khesoh, the team included Kezhaseluo Pienyü, Keviser Dzuvichu, Sedevizo Keretsu, Vekuzo Vezuh, Niekhozo Keroh, Heuci Kunlim and Vemele Thingo. Director of Youth Resources & Sports Kethoseituo Sekhose served as coach, while Joint Director Nyuvitho Nyuthe was the referee.
The team defeated Brazil, South Korea, Great Britain and Turkey before losing to hosts Kyrgyzstan to finish sixth. The opening ceremony was held at Bishkek Arena on August 31 and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nagaland Tug-of-War Association president Dr Er Vekho Swuro congratulated the team for displaying unity and sporting spirit and encouraged the players to strive for greater achievements.
He also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, under whose patronage the team’s participation was made possible.
