NPP Nagaland greets Phom and Konyak communities

DIMAPUR, MARCH 31 (MExN): The National People's Party (NPP) Nagaland has extended its greetings to the Konyak and Phom tribes as they celebrate the Aoleang and Monyu festivals.

In a statement issued on Monday, NPP Nagaland State President and MLA A. Nyamnyei Konyak, along with party members, wished the communities a "very happy, blessed, and bountiful" celebration.

Aoleang, observed by the Konyak Naga people primarily in Mon district, is a week-long festival marking the arrival of spring and the start of the agricultural season. The festival, which takes place in the first week of April, is considered the tribe’s most significant celebration. It includes rituals to seek blessings for a prosperous harvest, as well as traditional feasting, dancing, and gatherings of families and friends.

The festival also serves as a time for the community to remember loved ones who have passed away. Each day of the celebration is marked by specific customs and traditions, making it a vibrant expression of Konyak heritage.

Monyu, the Phom community’s pre-harvest festival, is similarly observed with cultural festivities and prayers for a fruitful agricultural season.
