Nagaland shooters shine at 13th North East Zone Shooting C’ship

Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): The Nagaland shooting team put up an impressive performance at the 13th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2026 held in Guwahati, Assam, from August 25 to 30, winning six gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

According to a statement issued by Kimatsung Jamir, president, Nagaland Rifle Association, Nagaland was represented by 23 shooters, including five women and 18 men, who competed in 10m Rifle and Pistol, 25m Standard Pistol, 50m Rifle Prone and Clay Pigeon Trap Shooting events.

The medal winners from Nagaland were:
•    Rongsennangshi Longchar – silver in 10m Air Rifle Sub-Youth Men Individual. 
•    Thejaselhou Ajan Liezietsu – bronze in 10m Air Rifle Junior Men Individual. 
•    Yimyakumla – bronze in 10m Air Rifle (ISSF) Women. 
•    Chizou Sorhienuo – gold in 10m Air Rifle Senior Master Women Individual. 
•    Lanu Akumtoshi Jamir – bronze in 25m Standard Pistol Master Men Individual. 
•    Yimyakumla – silver in 50m Rifle Prone Women Individual. 
•    Yimyakumla – gold in 50m Rifle Prone Junior Women Individual. 
•    Yimyakumla – gold in 50m Rifle Prone Youth Women Individual. 
•    Chizou Sorhienuo – gold in 50m Rifle Prone Senior Master Women Individual. 
•    Merang Jamir – gold in 50m Rifle Prone Senior Master Men Individual. 
•    Kimatsung Jamir – silver in Clay Pigeon Trap Shooting Senior Men Individual. 
•    Merang Jamir – gold in Clay Pigeon Trap Shooting Senior Master Men Individual. 
Altogether, 15 shooters from Nagaland qualified for the 69th National Shooting Championships Competition 2026, according to the Nagaland Rifle Association.
The association congratulated all the medal winners, participating shooters, coaches, team officials and others who contributed to the success of the Nagaland team.
It said the performance was a proud moment for shooting sports in Nagaland and reflected the dedication, discipline and hard work of the state’s shooters.
