Nagas urged to return to roots of unity and honesty

Dimapur, October 16 (MExN): T Kekongchim Yimkhiung, State Information Commissioner of Nagaland, delivered the 6th Departmental Annual Lecture for the Department of Political Science at Eastern Christian College, Dimapur on October 16, reflecting on the theme “Nagas – Yesterday and Today.”

Speaking at the college’s Multipurpose Hall, Yimkhiung contrasted the sincerity, honesty, and unity that characterized Naga society in the past with the challenges of the present day.

Yimkhiung reflected on the sincerity and honesty that characterized Naga society in the olden days. He highlighted the spirit of unity and oneness that bound the Nagas during their early struggles. While acknowledging that the Nagas were less educated in the past, he noted that they were far more civilized and empathetic towards the less privileged.

The speaker observed that with the advancement of society and technology, Nagas have gradually become complacent, selfish, and less civilized. He lamented that corruption has become widespread and that many have grown unapologetic even when they falter. He remarked that today’s society is often more focused on preaching moral values than practicing them.

The Commissioner urged the student community to uphold the ethos of their forefathers and to contribute meaningfully towards the unity and progress of the Naga people.
