Dimapur, April 8 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has raised concern over the lack of improvement in civic sanitation in Dimapur city despite the establishment of the Municipal Council Dimapur (DMC), and announced a city-wide cleanliness initiative beginning April 15.

In a statement, the NCD said it has been receiving several complaints from concerned citizens urging it to exert pressure on the DMC and the Dimapur district civil administration to ensure broom-swept cleanliness of streets and market areas.

The council noted that it had hoped for all-round development in municipal areas, particularly in maintaining hygienic and sanitary conditions in the city. However, it said the “unpleasant” condition of Dimapur’s cleanliness remains unchanged compared to the period prior to the functioning of the municipal council.

Citing the absence of significant improvement in sanitation as expected by citizens, the NCD said it has been constrained to appeal to all shopkeepers—especially those located along commercial streets—to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in front of their establishments.

Under the “Dimapur City Cleanliness Campaign”, to be carried out under the aegis of the NCD, shopkeepers have been asked to ensure waste-free, mud-free and dust-free surroundings, including cleaning of clogged drains and footpaths adjoining their shops on a daily basis with effect from April 15, 2026.

The NCD further stated that it will monitor the implementation of the campaign and issue remarks against defaulters. It appealed to all concerned stakeholders to cooperate with the initiative and contribute towards self-managed cleanliness in the city.
