Students, teachers and others during the Child-Friendly Library sessions
Dimapur, March 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Centre for Human Development & Information Technology (NCHD&IT), supported by the Roots to Branches Foundation, recently organised Child-Friendly Library sessions students from GPS Bamunpukhuri A and GMS Bamunpukhuri B to two other government schools as part of its ‘Knowledge Hub: Enriching Children’s Library Resources in Government Primary Schools in Nagaland’ initiative.
The visits held on March 25 and 28, took students to GPS Ghokito Village (Niuland) and GMS Sangtamtilla (Dimapur), respectively, to promote peer learning and enrich library interactions within the network of government schools in Nagaland.
Since its launch in 2020, the programme has established dedicated children’s libraries in six schools, each stocked with over 500 books, as per the NCHD&IT press release.
During the event, Hechi, Class 3, GPS Ghokito, Niuland & Silas, class 3, GMS Sangtamtilla explained the functioning of the library and the responsibilities of its committee members.
Vilito Chophy, a volunteer representing the student union, narrated a story of “The Grasshopper and the Ant”, while Pangjungla representing the teachers of GMS Sangtamtilla narrated a story “No Smiles Today”.
Viwoto Zhimomi, a community member, Ghokito acknowledged the positive impact of the library and commended NCHD&IT for their initiative, while Mezhukhrielie Keretsu, the teacher incharge of GMS Sangtamtilla commented the library initiative and its significance in a digital age.
A total of 154 students and 12 teachers participated in the exposure programme.
