KOHIMA, APRIL 4 (MExN): The Nagaland Contractors' & Suppliers' Union (NCSU) has called for the full implementation of 100% reclamation machinery for projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana Phase-III (PMGSY-III), citing major delays and poor physical progress across multiple worksites.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, the Union expressed concern that only one of the forty sanctioned PMGSY-III projects had deployed a reclamation machine, despite the Nagaland Public Works Department (NPWD) opting for 100% use of such machinery during the tendering process.
“The Union during the inspection for work progress on PMGSY and found that out of 40 projects only 1 Reclamation Machine w[as] installed at Rusoma Village site,” the statement read. It further noted that the remaining projects, although awarded to contractors on March 21, 2024, have shown only “5-10% physical progress” even after a lapse of one year.
The NCSU said it remains committed to “fighting for the interest of common cause” and urged the government to prioritize both the quality of workmanship and timely completion of the road construction scheme.
“The Union strongly insist for early completion and maintain quality of workmanship on top priority with 100% Reclamation Machine,” the letter stated, adding, “no Union will not compromise with any changes of modality at any cause.”
The Union also warned that any lapses in adhering to the terms and conditions set out in the guidelines “shall not be compromised,” and held that both the concerned department and the firms involved would be held accountable if any violations occurred.
