DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): The Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (W/C, NNPGs) on Tuesday strongly condemned the incident of unprovoked firing on September 28 near the residence of its co-convener Kiviho Zhimomi.
In a statement, the NNPGs said the firing, which took place around 6.30 pm, was allegedly carried out by cadres of the GPRN/NSCN (Kitovi) group led by SS Maj Gen Hinoto Yepthomi. It added that similar physical and psychological threats have continued even after the incident.
“The reckless and outrageous conduct, clearly designed to sabotage the hard-earned peace and reconciliation journey, cannot be tolerated and must be condemned by every peace yearning citizen,” the statement said.
It noted that while Nagas are striving to bring all political groups and stakeholders to a common ground for an inclusive political solution, such acts threaten to derail the process.
The NNPGs asserted that violence, threats and intimidation cannot subdue the aspirations of the Naga people. “To abjure violence and pave the way for peace, healing and unity is the only way forward,” it said, appealing to all Naga political groups to exercise maximum restraint and resolve differences through dialogue and understanding.
