PBTC resolves not to cooperate with NPGs disturbing peace in East Dimapur

DIMAPUR, APRIL 4 (MExN): The Purana Bazar Tribal Council (PBTC) has resolved to extend non-cooperation to any individuals or Naga Political Groups (NPGs) that disturbs public safety and peace within East Dimapur.

The decision was made following a meeting held on April 4, convened in response to a letter from the Neokpao and Alezo led GPRN/NSCN dated March 31. The meeting was called to address rising concerns regarding public safety and peace in the area. After deliberation, the Council concluded that non-cooperation was necessary to safeguard the interests of the general public.

The letter from the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) highlighted an ongoing situation at its Ceasefire Monitoring Office located at Jorapukhuri, Purana Bazar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the East Dimapur Town Council. In the letter, it alleged that its CF office has been under siege by “opposing forces” since March 22.

Citing the high potential for confrontation, as a result of the alleged siege, and its impact on public tranquillity, the GPRN/NSCN urged the colony council chairmen, GBs, and councilors of the East Dimapur Council to take immediate remedial measures, including the evacuation of the office, to prevent further escalation.

A copy of the notice, issued by Daniel C Angte, Secretary of Kilo (Home) Affairs, GPRN/NSCN (Unification), was forwarded to the media by the PBTC. The Tribal Council’s move comes amid heightened tensions between rival Naga political factions.
