
Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): A series of events were held across Nagaland to mark the national launch of the Pradhan Mantri DhanDhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) and the National Mission on Pulses by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
Chümoukedima: The District Administration and the Department of Agriculture & Allied sectors in Chümoukedima hosted a two-way live webcast for the national launch of the PMDDKY and Mission for Aatmanirbharata in Pulses.
The event, held at the DC’s office, was synchronised with the national launch ceremony presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
District Agriculture Officer, Moianla Pongen, outlined the key objectives of the PMDDKY. She stated that the scheme will target 100 underperforming districts across India with the aim of boosting agricultural productivity and modernising farming practices. She highlighted that the initiative would offer financial assistance through long-term and short-term loans in collaboration with NABARD and would be implemented in coordination with existing agricultural schemes.
Technical sessions followed the inaugural segment. Agriculture Officer Meciesunu Sakhrie delivered a presentation on Improved Package & Practices of Major Rabi Crops, while Avizo Virie, District Project Director of ATMA, spoke on the Principles & Practices of Natural Farming.
Prior to the national launch, DC of Chümoukedima, Polan John, NCS, distributed seeds and other agricultural inputs to farmers.
The event culminated with the formal launch of the two flagship schemes by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via the live webcast.
Dimapur: A live streaming event for the national launch of PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and National Mission on Pulses was organised by ICAR-KVK Dimapur in collaboration with the ICAR Research Complex for the NEH Region, Nagaland Centre. The programme, held at the KVK Dimapur conference hall, was chaired by Dr Bendangla Imsong.
Shriyanshee Jain, IAS, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) of Chümoukedima district, attended as the Chief Guest. In her address, she encouraged farmers to utilise various agricultural and allied sector schemes. She highlighted Nagaland’s rich biodiversity and urged farmers to leverage it for the state's development, emphasising collaboration with the administration to support them.
Dr Aabon Yanthan, a Scientist from ICAR, Nagaland Centre, motivated farmers to maximise the use of agricultural schemes, including the newly launched initiatives and the existing PM-KISAN. He advised against monocropping, recommending crop diversification to boost income and mitigate risks. He also suggested adopting good post-harvest practices, such as using solar-powered cold storage, to reduce losses.
Martin Joror from Department of Horticulture, Dimapur, detailed the horticulture schemes being implemented in the state.
A technical session on Rabi agro-advisories for major crops was conducted by Dr Harendra Verma, Scientist, ICAR, Nagaland Centre. He interacted with farmers on cultivating mustard and linseeds in rice fallows and explained the scientific cultivation methods for these crops, winter maize, and suitable potato varieties for Nagaland. This was followed by the live viewing of the national launch ceremony. Dr Bendangla Imsong delivered a talk on the principles and practices of natural farming, encouraging farmers to acquire skills in this area.
Another session, led by Dr Moanaro, Technical Officer of ICAR-KVK Dimapur, covered awareness on the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS), the farmer's grievances redressal portal, benefits of GST reduction, and flagship schemes of the Government of India.
The programme concluded with a visit by the farmers to the KVK research farm. A total of 81 participants attended the event.
Longleng: In Longleng, an awareness-cum-live streaming programme was organised by ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, which was graced by MLA A Pongshi Phom and Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom as special guests.
The MLA appreciated the Prime Minister’s initiative and encouraged the farming community to take full advantage of the scheme for better productivity. The DC commended KVK Longleng for connecting national policies with grassroots implementation and emphasized the administration's commitment to ensuring the scheme's benefits reach all villages, including women and marginal farmers.
Dr Hari Charan Kalita, Head of KVK Longleng, stated that the PMDDKY integrates over 36 schemes across 11 ministries to promote sustainable agriculture.

Mon: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mon, organised the local launch programme of PM-DDKY, which was inaugurated nationally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference.
The event was chaired by Ruyosu Nakro, Agricultural Technology Extension Officer (Agril Extension). In his address, the chairperson emphasised the scheme's objective to seamlessly integrate the benefits of various government initiatives for the welfare of farmers.
Following the national video conference, a technical session was held for the participating farmers. Key topics discussed included improved package of practices for major pulse and oilseed crops, principles and practices of Natural Farming, and awareness on pest surveillance systems.
The programme also featured a field visit to demonstration units. To conclude the event, various vegetable seeds and extension literature on package of practices for pulses, oilseeds, and Natural Farming were distributed to the farmers.
A total of 104 participants attended the launching programme.

Peren: Over 110 farmers from across Peren district witnessed the live-streamed national launch of PMDDKY and Dalhan Atmanirbharata Mission. The event was organised by the ICAR-KVK, Peren, in collaboration with the district's Agriculture and Allied Departments.
Dr KL Meena, Programme Coordinator and Head of KVK Peren, delivered the keynote address, outlining the objectives, implementation criteria, and structural design of the newly launched schemes.
The programme was chaired by Dr Prashant Kalal, Subject Matter Specialist at KVK Peren.
District Agriculture Officer, Dr Zieleigai Ndang, advised farmers to optimally utilise various government agricultural schemes and promoted the use of bio-fertilisers and bio-pesticides over chemical alternatives.
Sentilong, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Peren, also addressed the gathering, highlighting government initiatives across agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, and fishery sectors aimed at enhancing farmers' livelihoods and achieving self-reliance. Z. James Kikon, Chief Technical Officer of KVK Peren, encouraged the adoption of organic cultivation practices, such as the use of Beejamruta and Jeevamruta, for chemical-free food production.
Iruga Zeliang, Councilor of Jalukie Town, commended the efforts of KVK Peren and the allied departments in supporting the farming community.
The farmers and officials present watched the live-streamed inaugural address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Following the launch, a Farmer-Scientist Interaction session was held, and vegetable seeds were distributed to all the participating farmers.

Phek: The launch programme of the PM-DDKY was held at ICAR-KVK Phek and the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Porba.
The event was graced by Dr Girish Patil S, Director of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, as the Chief Guest. A large gathering of scientists, officials, and progressive farmers from various villages attended the programme.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK Phek, inaugurated the event with a welcome address and introductory remarks on the PM-DDKY scheme, Rabi pulse crops, and natural farming.
Participants viewed a live webcast of the national PM-DDKY programme addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A technical session featured presentations by scientists from ICAR-KVK Phek. Dr T Esther Longkumer, Chief Technical Officer (Soil Science), spoke on the importance and methods of natural farming. Dr Hannah K Asangla, Chief Technical Officer (Agronomy), discussed Rabi pulse crop cultivation.
Insights on allied sectors were provided by Dr Harini KR, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), on livestock management, and Manjunath KS, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), on kiwi cultivation. Swuyievezo Dzudo, an IARI Innovative Awardee for 2025, shared his experiences and innovations with the participants.
In his address, chief guest Dr Girish Patil S commended the dedication of KVK scientists and the farmers' active participation. A farmer-scientist interaction session was conducted to address local agricultural concerns, and seeds were distributed to the attendees. Er Nukusa T Vadeo proposed the vote of thanks. The outreach initiative saw participation from 163 farmers and farm women representing 11 villages.

Mokokchung: The KVK in Mokokchung organised a programme to mark the launch of the PM Dhan Dhanya Agricultural Scheme and the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission.
The event, held at the KVK conference hall, was chaired by Dr Sarenedi Walling, ACTO (Animal Science).
In his keynote address, Dr Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Mokokchung, outlined the modalities of the new schemes. He emphasised that the PM Dhan-Dhanya scheme subsumes 36 different existing schemes, aiming to make farming sustainable, increase production, and provide cold storage facilities in all villages. Dr Khate stated that the scheme will be implemented in a phased manner, with the first phase spanning six years.
Officials from the Agriculture, Horticulture, Soil Conservation, Animal Husbandry, and Veterinary departments attended the programme. Representatives from these agri-allied departments delivered short speeches on their respective schemes.
The participants observed a live webcast of the national-level inauguration of the PM Dhan-Dhanya Agricultural Scheme and the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission. The broadcast also included the inauguration and foundation stone-laying for over 1100 projects under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, and in the Animal Husbandry, Fishery, and Food Processing sectors.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Khekali Sema, ACTO (Horticulture). A total of 81 farmers were present for the live webcast.

Niuland: Niuland District Administration and the Agriculture & Allied sectors department on Saturday organised a programme to launch PM-DDKY and Mission for Aatmanirbharata in Pulses.
The event, held at the DC Conference Hall, was synchronised with a national ceremony and featured a live webcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferring benefits to farmers.
DC Sara S Jamir, in her address, stated that the PM-DDKY is designed to enhance agricultural productivity and improve infrastructure for farmers across the country. She said that once the project is formally launched, the district administration and concerned officers would deliberate on its implementation. Jamir urged the officers to sensitise the citizens of the district about the various schemes.
District Agriculture Officer, Thepusa Nakro, outlined the aims and objectives of the PM-DDKY in his keynote address.
The programme was chaired by Dr Arenjungla, Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer. A vote of thanks was delivered by Agriculture Officer, Ditolyn Sumi.
