Power workers to strike from April 14

DIMAPUR, APRIL 10 (MExN): The All Nagaland Electricity Field Workers Association (ANEFWA) announced that it will launch a phase-wise agitation starting April 14, after the expiry of its abeyance period, accusing the Department of Power of failing to act on its earlier assurances.

In a letter addressed to the Engineer-in-Chief of the Power Department, ANEFWA President Vethinu Kezo stated that the decision follows the department’s “passivity” in addressing the association’s demands, first outlined in an ultimatum issued on February 10.

“Despite assurance being made during the joint meeting above referred, nothing has been materialized as yet, which display the passivity of the authorities concerned,” the association wrote in the letter dated April 10.

The letter cites a chain of events including an ultimatum, a joint meeting on March 5, and a letter of abeyance issued on March 6. That letter expired on April 6.

The association argued that its demands are justified and essential to ensure the dignity and function of its members. “The demands advanced by this Association are genuine without which it has become unbearably hard for members of this Association to serve the Govt./citizen,” the letter said.

Calling for “the Government’s attention at the highest level,” ANEFWA urged the department to treat the matter with urgency and seriousness. “Your kind authority is hereby requested to take up the issue seriously with the Govt.,” the association said.
