PANGTI, May 20 (MExN): The Pangti Village Students’ Union (PVSU) has condemned the substandard quality and negligence in the ongoing PMGSY Phase-III road construction on the Doyang-Mangmetong stretch (Package T-01), cautioning that even light rainfall renders the thoroughfare unmotorable, endangering the lives and livelihoods of six villages dependent on the route as their sole lifeline.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Union expressed its dissatisfaction and resentment over the project execution, which it said has “utterly failed to meet the expectations and needs of the public.”

The 18.5-kilometre road is the only connectivity linking Pangti Village along with five other habitations. Officials of the Union said there is absolutely no alternative route, making any negligence or delay a direct threat to the movement, economy, medical access, education, and safety of the local population.

“Even a slight rainfall or mere drizzling turns the road into a pathetic and unmotorable condition, causing extreme hardship for taxi services, private vehicles, commuters, and the general public,” the Union said, adding that the situation clearly reflects irresponsible and poor execution of the project.

Inspection finds poor-quality materials, slow progress
On May 18, 2026, the PVSU conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing construction. During the visit, Union representatives met with the site in-charge, site engineer, supervisor, and officials of M/s LPSS Infra Company, Kohima.

The Union strongly condemned the use of “the cheapest and lowest-quality raw materials” in the construction of culverts, side retaining walls, and related works. It demanded that if the contractor cannot provide high-quality materials, the public at least deserves materials of average standard capable of withstanding normal usage and weather conditions.

The PVSU further urged the company officials to immediately accelerate the pace of work and directed them to intimate the main contractor regarding the severe shortage of machinery and equipment, which has greatly hampered construction progress.

Demands for corrective action before monsoons
The Union has demanded that the construction company replace the poor-quality raw materials with immediate effect and strictly maintain the required standards as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

In addition, the PVSU, along with Village GBs, Committee, and the general public, has strongly urged the contractor to take immediate corrective measures and complete earth cutting, culverts, side drains, and retaining walls before the heavy monsoon season.

“Because of the extremely slow progress of work, the public are facing untold difficulties in transportation, medical emergencies, educational activities, business operations, and daily movement. The suffering of the people can no longer be ignored,” the Union stated.

The PVSU has resolved to continue inspecting and monitoring the ongoing PMGSY Phase-III road construction to ensure accountability and transparency in the implementation process. The Union reaffirmed that it firmly stands against any form of negligence, corruption, improper functioning, and substandard workmanship contrary to the DPR.
