KOHIMA, March 23 (MExN): The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) conducted a two-day refresher training for Malaria Technical Supervisors (MTS) at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare on March 18 and 19.

Dr. L. A. Singh, Senior Regional Director, Imphal, addressed the participants on the National Framework for Malaria Elimination (2016-2030), emphasizing the importance of pre-planning for surveillance and case investigation in the event of an epidemic. He underscored the need for rapid response teams at district headquarters to oversee surveillance in both urban and rural areas and called for contingency plans to manage outbreaks effectively.

Dr. Singh provided a detailed explanation of malaria control measures in India, covering the types and life cycle of malarial parasites, transmission dynamics, vulnerable groups, and diagnosis and treatment protocols. He also discussed surveillance strategies, malaria case investigation forms, and Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS).

Sessions were also led by other experts. Imsubenla, Public Health and Training Consultant, spoke on recording and reporting through the IHIP VBD portal for malaria and dengue. Thungchio Y. Enny, Senior Pharmacist and M&E, highlighted procurement and supply chain management, including the Drugs and Vaccine Distribution Management System.

Ngangnenmongba, M&E Consultant, addressed financial aspects, while Wapangsungla Longkumer, IEC/BCC Consultant, emphasized the importance of information, education, and communication (IEC) activities. Malaria entomology was covered by Venezo Vasa, Biologist and Acting Senior Entomologist, along with Atuonuo Rupreo, Entomology Consultant.

A practical session on Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) and blood smear preparation was conducted by Anungla, Laboratory Technician.

The training commenced with an introductory session and welcome address by Dr. Neisakho Kere, Joint Director & State Programme Officer. A total of 69 Malaria Technical Supervisors from all districts participated in the program.
