SAMETI trains ATMA functionaries on pest management practices

Medziphema, April 17 (MExN): The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a three-day training programme for ATMA functionaries on “Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Agricultural and Horticultural Crops” from April 15 to 17 in Medziphema.

The inaugural session was chaired by Deputy Project Director, SAMETI, Tiajungla Longchar. Director SAMETI and Principal IETC, Bodevi Shuya, in his address, stressed the importance of IPM in agricultural activities and encouraged participants to actively engage in the programme and disseminate the knowledge to farmers.

Resource persons included Dr Waluniba, Assistant Professor, and Dr Hijam Shila Devi, Associate Professor, Department of Entomology, Nagaland University, School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema campus; Dr Sable Mangesh Gajanan, Assistant Plant Protection Officer; and Rameshwar Telangre, Plant Protection Officer from the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The training covered topics such as crop-specific IPM in horticultural and agronomical crops, successful bio-control programmes, pest surveillance and monitoring of agro-ecosystems, and a hands-on session on the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS).

Participants also undertook field visits to the Insect Museum, Department of Entomology; Disease Museum, Department of Plant Pathology; and the Institutional Museum at the SAS campus.

The valedictory session was chaired by Tiajungla Longchar, while Bodevi Shuya delivered the concluding remarks. Certificates were distributed to the trainees at the end of the programme. Altogether, 27 ATMA functionaries attended the training.
