The 10-U Children’s Festival, organized by the Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu Department of Christian Education of the Sümi Christian Centre, Aizüto, was hosted by the Zunheboto Town Sumi Baptist Church (ZTSBC) from October 1 to 3, under the theme "Sparkle."

The event witnessed a participation of more than 3,500 delegates, representing 94 villages and nine sectors from in and around Zunheboto Town.

Gracing the occasion as a special guest was K. Tokugha Sukhalu, IAS (Retd.), Advisor for Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Chairman Urban Local Bodies and Village Council Chairman, Government of Nagaland.

Addressing the gathering, Sukhalu emphasized the importance of education and moral integrity among the Sumi community. Reflecting on his own humble beginnings, he shared “I started my early education in a lone government lower primary school in Zunheboto town and later went outside Zunheboto to pursue further studies. I worked in various places and even had the opportunity to serve a short term as Deputy Commissioner in Zunheboto.”

Sukhalu highlighted the drastic social changes over the years, saying. “In our time, we had no concept of mobile phones, drugs, or alcohol. We loved one another, shaped and molded each other. Today, we need to ask ourselves, are we united? Do we understand each other?”

Expressing concern over the growing issues of substance abuse and declining educational standards, he urged the youth not to fall into the trap of drugs and alcohol.

“I never imagined entering politics. But today, I see that our education system is failing us. We must become vigilant and accountable. Start by asking if your teacher is present in class? If not, students must speak up.”

He further stated, “No amount of prayer alone will secure your livelihood. We must also work hard and study. We are not deceiving others, we are deceiving our own future, our own children.”
Sukhalu called on the public to raise awareness, advocate for change, and hold institutions accountable.

“We should not compromise, even if it involves our own friends or family. Children follow in their parents’ footsteps so we must guide them well".  He further instructed the Children attending the conference to stand on their feet and bless them "Study hard and become leaders not only for the Sumi community, but beyond.”

Earlier in the programme, Lovili Yeptho, Sunday School Leader Phishumi Baptist church chaired the session with praise and worship lead by the Suruhuto Town Baptist Church, Special performance performed by the Sukimi Baptist Church which was followed by the scripture reading Kameto Chishi from Asukhuto Town Baptist Church sharing from Elivi Kiba, Principal Children Education & Training Center and benediction prayer offered by Shikato Rochill, Cashier.
