Kohima, March 3 (MExN): Eighteen students from Kohima district participated in the three-day ‘Happy Trail .3’ camping trip held at Dzuleke village from February 27 to March 1 under the Wipro earthian initiative.

The camp brought together 18 students, three teachers, two mentors and members of the local community for an immersive learning experience centred on ecology, culture and sustainability.

Designed to connect students with nature and indigenous knowledge systems, the programme featured a series of hands-on activities.

Participants learnt traditional cane basket weaving from a local artisan, engaged in birdwatching sessions to explore biodiversity, and undertook nature walks to Dzulekiechie Falls, Khwukhabadze, Mezhazhu and nearby paddy fields, informed a press release.

Students also foraged wild edible plants and prepared traditional dishes, gaining practical insight into sustainable food practices and local livelihoods.

Evening campfire and storytelling sessions provided a platform for sharing indigenous myths, legends and lived experiences and a dedicated session on writing field notes and reflective documentation aimed to strengthen students’ observational and analytical skills, the release added.

The programme received support from the Dzuleke Village Council and the Teacher-in-Charge of GPS Dzuleke Seyielhoukho along with colleagues.

Patricia Vizo, Joint Director, Directorate of School Education (DoSE), and Smti Rokonieno, ADC, DMA Samagra Shiksha Kohima visited the camp and encouraged the participants.

Organisers stated that the ‘Happy Trail .3’ camping trip helped foster environmental awareness, cultural appreciation and a sense of responsible citizenship among the young learners.
