The Tongdentsuyong Yarisem Telok (TYT) on October 16 launched the Tongdentsuyong Entrepreneurs Sales Day at the Tongdentsuyong Community Hall premises, an initiative aimed at empowering skilled local entrepreneurs, particularly the youth.

The programme, initiated under the leadership of Imkongsanen, Councillor, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), seeks to provide a platform for emerging entrepreneurs to showcase and market their locally made products, including arts, handicrafts, baked goods, customized apparel, and other creative works.

In his address, Imkongsanen highlighted that Tongdentsuyong Ward is home to many talented youths whose products are already attracting customers from outside the ward. Recognizing this potential, he said the TYT conceptualized a series of projects to support the community’s entrepreneurial spirit, with the Sales Day being the first step.

“This is just the beginning, but we hope to make it a regular event — maybe monthly, weekly, or even twice a week depending on the situation,” he stated. He emphasized that while setting up a permanent shop may not be feasible for many, a flexible market like the Sales Day allows individuals to remain productive without heavy commitments.

“When you earn from your own work, you will be encouraged to do more. Those with even a small backyard can start a kitchen garden, sell their produce, and earn,” he encouraged, adding that the initiative aims to ensure that “no one remains idle.”

Calling it a “baby step,” Imkongsanen urged participants to remain consistent so that the community can “walk and run one day.” He expressed hope that even if 10 or 20 individuals are uplifted through the initiative, it would inspire many others and uplift the entire ward.

Imtichizung, Chairman of Tongdentsuyong Ward, delivered a word of encouragement, while Monglir, Associate Pastor of MTBA, invoked God’s blessings for the success of the initiative.
The day-long event featured over ten male and female entrepreneurs who set up pop-up stalls under the theme “Exploring Local Hidden Gems.” Event highlights included displays of art and prints, handicrafts, baked goods, local produce, customized tote bags, handmade fashion accessories, and more.
