WOKHA, MARCH 28 (MExN): The Wokha district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, and in partnership with Tepzen Agro-food FarmTech, organized a one-day training on sustainable farming techniques in piggery and poultry for local women farmers on March 28.
The training was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Wokha with Dr Gwazenlo Tep, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Wokha, and Dr Joshua Kath, CEO & Marketing Executive of Tepzen Agro-food & FarmTech, as the resource persons.
Speaking on sustainable farming techniques, Dr Gwazenlo Tep emphasized that piggery and poultry farming are among the most sustainable livestock-based businesses, offering economic stability. He noted that the government provides support to farmers, unemployed youth, and local entrepreneurs through loans and subsidies, encouraging the trainees to take advantage of these opportunities and effectively implement their projects. To ensure the success of these ventures, Dr Tep highlighted the importance of using proper feed sources, practicing integrated farming, implementing effective waste management, and focusing on disease prevention.
Dr Joshua Kath focused on the management of feeds and general care in poultry and piggery farming. He stressed the importance of a balanced diet, which includes grains, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, to meet the specific needs of animals at different growth stages. Dr Kath also underlined the significance of maintaining proper housing, hygiene, and optimal environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and lighting, to prevent diseases and ensure the health of the animals.
The event was chaired by Merithung Lotha, Gender Specialist at DHEW, with SDO (C) Wokha, Rosy Sangtam delivering the welcome address. Yanchumben Ngullie delivered the vote of thanks.
