WOKHA, FEBRUARY 27 (MExN): A one-day district-level workshop was held on February 27 at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer's office in Wokha. The session focused on the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, gender-based violence, and medico-legal care for survivors or victims of sexual violence.
Dr Thungchanbemo Ezung, Chief Medical Officer of Wokha, welcomed the medical officers and registered medical practitioners in attendance. He provided an introduction to the PC-PNDT Act and emphasized the importance of its implementation at health facilities across the district.
Dr Mhajan Kikon, Medical Officer at Englan PHC, was the resource person for the session on the PC-PNDT Act. He explained that the main goal of the law is to prevent female foeticides and sex determination. Dr Kikon discussed the objectives of the Act, the necessary training for medical practitioners, penalties for offenders, and the statutory bodies established at the state and district levels. He also informed the participants that seven clinics in Wokha are currently registered under the Act. Additionally, Dr Kikon briefed the group on the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Bill.
The second session was led by Mhonbeni Ezung, District Programme Manager, who provided information on services available under Mission Shakti, an umbrella scheme aimed at ensuring the safety, security, and empowerment of women.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness on the PC-PNDT Act, gender-based violence, and the support systems available for victims.
