The Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU) has issued a public notice expressing serious concern over the increasing number of students loitering late at night and engaging in activities considered unsafe and detrimental to their future.

According to the Union, reports have emerged of students from high school, higher secondary, and college levels moving around unnecessarily during late hours within the town jurisdiction. ZRSU stated that such behaviour reflects a decline in discipline and could pose risks not only to the students themselves but also to the wider community.

In view of the situation, the Union has issued a set of compliance measures and advisories aimed at maintaining discipline and safeguarding the welfare of students. As per the advisory, students have been strongly urged not to loiter outside after 6:00 PM. The Union also strictly prohibited acts such as playing truant, skipping classes and bullying within the town area.

Further, citing Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, ZRSU reminded the public that students below 18 years of age are not permitted to drive motor vehicles in public places or within educational institutions.

The Union informed that the directive has been issued as both a preventive and corrective measure in the larger interest of the student community. It cautioned that any student found unnecessarily loitering beyond the prescribed timing or violating the directives may be identified and reported to their respective parents, guardians, and educational institutions.

ZRSU further stated that regular day and night monitoring would be conducted in coordination with community leaders and concerned authorities to ensure compliance.

The Union also appealed to parents and guardians to take responsibility for their children by ensuring proper discipline and restricting unnecessary movement during late hours.

Reiterating that the initiative is intended to safeguard the youth and maintain social order, ZRSU warned that non-cooperation or negligence in the matter would not be taken lightly.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, ZRSU President Kitolu S Kibami and General Secretary Tonoka V Zhimomi reiterated that the public advisory is mandatory, as the union has recently been receiving numerous complaints from the public regarding student-related issues.

They informed that regular day and night monitoring would soon be conducted in coordination with community leaders and concerned authorities to ensure strict compliance with the advisory.

A few concerned citizens expressed support for the move, stating that although some critics may oppose the initiative, the reality is that many underage boys and girls are often seen loitering unsupervised, especially during nighttime, without proper parental guidance and supervision.

“We need not go into details; I hope everyone understands the concern,” one citizen remarked, adding that the initiative is commendable as the primary focus of student organizations should always remain the welfare, discipline and education of students.
