KVK conducts field training in Khriezephe village

Dimapur, July 9 (MExN): The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur conducted a day-long demonstration programme on scientific paddy cultivation and natural farming practices at the Natural Farming Model Demonstration Unit in Khriezephe Village, with an emphasis on promoting sustainable and eco-friendly farming techniques.

The programme began with an introductory session by Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK Dimapur, who welcomed the participants and outlined the extension, training and technology dissemination initiatives undertaken by the KVK for the benefit of farmers.

She stressed the importance of adopting sustainable agricultural practices that improve productivity while conserving natural resources, encouraging farmers to integrate eco-friendly methods into paddy cultivation.

As part of the natural farming demonstration,  E Lireni Kikon, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Plant Protection), trained participants in the preparation of Jeevamrit, a microbial culture made from locally available natural ingredients that helps improve soil microbial activity and soil health.

A practical session was also conducted on treating paddy seedlings with a Jeevamrit solution diluted in a 1:10 ratio before transplanting. According to the trainers, the treatment promotes healthy root development and enhances crop vigour.

The demonstration on the scientific method of line transplanting in paddy was led by Dr. Bendangla Imsong, Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding), who explained that the practice ensures proper plant spacing, improves aeration, facilitates crop management and intercultural operations, and contributes to higher yields.

Farmers were encouraged to adopt line transplanting as an effective method to increase productivity while making field management more efficient.

The programme concluded with an interactive session that provided participating farmers with hands-on experience in sustainable paddy cultivation techniques and natural farming practices.
