Tuensang, July 8 (MExN): The Tuensang Forest Division under the Forest & Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya (Nagaland) Project organised an Institutional Connectivity Consultative Meeting on July 8, bringing together representatives from six villages to strengthen collaboration on community-led forest and biodiversity conservation.
The meeting, held at the office of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Tuensang, was attended by Community Conserved Area (CCA) Chairpersons and Secretaries, Village Council Chairpersons from Hak, Nakshou, Yali, Lokhung, Momching and Saoshou villages, along with officials of the Tuensang Forest Range and Tuensang Forest Division.
According to a press release issued by the Tuensang Forest Division, the programme began with a welcome address by Dr Prabhat Kumar, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Tuensang Forest Division. The meeting was chaired by Ms Sichola, Finance-cum-Office Manager, while Forest Range Officer Menya Wongto moderated the proceedings.
Discussions centred on the concept of Institutional Connectivity, including the formation of a Joint CCA Committee, its organisational structure, roles and responsibilities, and the adoption of its rules and regulations.
The meeting also sought to strengthen participants' understanding that biodiversity conservation requires coordinated efforts among neighbouring communities rather than isolated initiatives. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative management for the sustainable protection of forests and biodiversity across the landscape.
The consultative meeting marked the beginning of a landscape-level conservation initiative under the Sangyochung cluster, with six villages agreeing to work through a common platform to promote joint community conserved areas and enhance cooperation in safeguarding natural resources, the release stated.
