NFR closes down 754 unauthorised railway crossings; resolve to ensure public safety

Guwahati, May 10 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has already closed down 754 out of 950 unauthorised crossing identified at vulnerable locations in the recent past to ensure public safety, an official release informed. 

Besides, warning boards have been erected at 919 locations and trenches have been provided at 181 locations, stated the release from the CPRO, NFR. 

The NFR is concerned about the fact that every year many lives are lost while trying to cross the railway tracks at unauthorised locations and from January 2021 upto May 9, 2022, almost 29 numbers of untoward incidents have been recorded with loss of lives, it added. 

Accordingly, as a part of its drive to ensure further safety, the NFR has already eliminated all unmanned level crossing gates while railway all efforts are being undertaken to prohibit unauthorised crossing of railway tracks, it maintained. 

Awareness programmes are being conducted by the NFR at schools, colleges, panchayats etc to educate general public about avoiding crossing of railway tracks at unauthorised locations so as to avert fatal incidents, the release noted. 

The NFR discourages the unauthorised crossing and trespassing of railway premises (including railway tracks), and advice the public to follow Railway safety rules and trespassing of railway premises at unauthorised places is a punishable offence, it added.
