The Wokha District Youth Wing of the NPF organised the ‘One Nagaland Run 5K’ on August 20 under the theme “Running Together, Growing Together,” following the directive of the NPF Central Youth Wing. The event recorded 111 registrations, with 86 runners, including 58 men and 28 women, taking part in the run.
The run was flagged off by Dr Chumben Murry, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Senior Vice President, Central Office Bearers (COB), NPF, who graced the occasion as the special guest. The programme commenced with a dedication prayer led by Lilly Lotha, Working President of the NPF Wokha Division.
In the men’s category, Renthungo Tsanglao secured the first position with a timing of 16:18 minutes, followed by Abemo Kithan at 16:49 minutes and Nchumbemo C. Humtsoe at 17:20 minutes. In the women’s category, Mercy Ezung emerged first with a timing of 20:38 minutes. Chumbeno R. Kikon finished second with 20:53 minutes, while Jemie Y secured third position with 21:27 minutes.
Speaking at the event, Dr Chumben Murry appreciated the NPF Wokha Youth Division and the Wokha Athletic Association for organising the run. He noted that the NPF youth wing had recently conducted health camps across four constituencies in Wokha district and said the run was also connected to the broader effort to promote health and wellbeing among the people, particularly the youth.
Murry said politics and governance should not be limited to running the government but should also reflect concern and sensitivity towards citizens. He also appreciated the participation of the runners, noting that although more than 100 people had registered, the participation of over 80 runners was encouraging.
He said the participation of the youth in the run conveyed a message to the public that young people were becoming increasingly conscious of their health and wellbeing. At the prize distribution ceremony, Myingthungo Kikon, Chairperson of Wokha Town Council, attended as the patron. He expressed gratitude to all individuals and organisations who extended physical, mental and financial support towards the event.
Kikon said the programme would not have been successful without the support of the participants and those who came forward to contribute to its organisation. Referring to the theme “Running Together, Growing Together,” he encouraged the participants to value participation over winning, stating that their involvement had given the event greater meaning and set a positive example for the community and society.
The prize distribution ceremony was also attended by John Ezung, Vice President, COB and Acting President of NPF Wokha Division; Zubenthung T. Ngullie, President of Lotha Students’ Union; and Benri Tsopoe, Vice President of Lotha Youth Hoho, who exhorted the gathering.
Amos Odyuo, President of NPF Youth Wing Wokha Division, expressed gratitude to the medical team, police personnel and individuals who provided logistical support. He also thanked all participants for their contribution towards making the event a success.
