DC Mon issues public advisory

MON, JUNE 6 (MExN): In view of the onset of monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, advised the public that heavy rainfall is expected during this monsoon period in lowland and foothill areas of Mon district. The district is likely to experience inundated water logging, flash floods, landslides and rising water level in the rivers and streams because of heavy precipitation in the hill sector.

Therefore, as a precautionary measure and in order to avoid any eventualities, the DC advised to refrain from going to vulnerable sports like landslide prone areas and also avoid movement and overnight stay beside the river banks for picnics, fishing and other water related activities or shelter under large trees, a DIPR report said. 

He further advised all to be watchful on hill roads and try to note features like cracks on road surface and slopes and to alert authorities. It also advised to be alert during heavy rainfall and continuous damp weather and stay out of the path of a landslide or debris flow and listen for any unusual sound that might indicate moving of debris, trees cracking or rolling boulders and also when there is a sudden increase in volume of water in streams and marked transformation from clear to muddy water.

It further instructed the concerned Area Administrative Officers/Head of the Departments/Village Disaster Management Authorities/Village Council Chairman/ Head GB/GBs/Ward Authorities to adhere and take precautionary measures and be alert to any emergencies caused by natural calamities/disaster to save lives and properties during the monsoon period.

In this regards, the DC further authorized the village Disaster Management Authorities (VDMAs) Village Councils/Head GBs/Ward authorities to strictly monitor the river banks and the cases/incidents if any may be reported to the DC office through mobile number +919366748416 under District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Mon.
