One person was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Dimapur on June 7. The victim has been identified as Abdul Kayum Talukdar, Gaonbura (GB) of New Market.
As per independent sources, the victim was reportedly shot from close range as he made his way to an apartment located near the Signal Basti evening bazaar. The assailant (s) reportedly came in a car and followed him inside the apartment complex. This version, however, has yet to be officially verified by the police. The incident occurred between 9:00-9:30 PM.
The victim was rushed to Faith Hospital where he succumbed to the bullet injuries. He reportedly sustained shots in the chest. More details were awaited.
Meanwhile, business owners in New Market reacted to the killing by deciding to keep shutters down, beginning June 8.
NMBWC Ward-19 condemns
In a condemnation note, the New Market Business Welfare Committee, Ward-19 said the heinous act has not only shocked all but has also raised significant concerns regarding the safety and well-being of the business community in the state.
Stating that such barbaric actions are intolerable and must be met with swift and decisive justice, the Committee has urgently called upon the law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate this atrocity and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
It is imperative that comprehensive measures are implemented to protect our vulnerable community members and prevent such monstrous acts in the future, it added.
The Committee also appealed to all conscientious citizens to join in condemning this horrific act. It is crucial for the unity and safety of our society that we stand together against such violence and work towards fostering a safe and just environment for all, it stated.
