Athletes representing the Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) brought laurels to the state by clinching two medals—a silver and a bronze—at the 5th India Taekwondo Kyorugi National Championship 2026–27, held in Pune, Maharashtra.
Nagaland fielded a four-member contingent in the Cadet Boys category at the national event, which commenced on August 16.
In the Cadet Boys under-33 kg division, Sudeh Lamliu delivered an exceptional run to secure the silver medal for Nagaland. After receiving a bye in the opening round, Lamliu defeated his opponent from Gujarat in the second match. He continued his winning momentum by overcoming fighters from Uttar Pradesh and Telangana in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, before going down to Mizoram in a hard-fought final.
In the Cadet Boys under-49 kg category, Rishi Doimary claimed the bronze medal following a strong showing. Doimary received a bye in the first round and registered successive victories against opponents from Puducherry and Rajasthan in the second and third matches. His campaign ended in the semi-finals after a defeat to Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The contingent was accompanied by team manager T Alem Aier and team coach Seyievili Angami.
Following the event, the NTA expressed gratitude to Kethosituo Sekhose, Director of the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, along with departmental officials and staff, for their continued backing and encouragement toward the promotion of the sport in the state.
The association also thanked the Nagaland Police Department for granting permission to Seyievili Angami, Nagaland Police Taekwondo Team Coach, to lead the state squad.
Additionally, the NTA acknowledged Grand Master Lee Jeong Hee, Korea Dispatch Coach to India and Senior Director of India Taekwondo, for his guidance, mentorship, and support, as well as NTA President Pele Khezhie for his leadership and direction.
Congratulating Lamliu and Doimary on their podium finishes, the NTA commended all four Cadet Boys participants for representing Nagaland with discipline, dedication, courage, and true sportsmanship.
