NSUM organises ‘Sports for Peace’ community event

Mumbai, May 20 (MExN): Naga Students’ Union Mumbai organised a two-day community event titled “Sports for Peace” under the theme “United by Sport, Empowered by Knowledge, Bound by Peace” at the St Dominic Savio Ground, Mumbai on May 18 and 19.

 

The event was attended by Hamyan Phom, Britto Khangchian and Kevai Thangal, who hoisted the flag and addressed members of the Naga community in Mumbai.


Seven teams representing different locations — Kalina A, Kalina B, Khar, Others, South Bombay, North Mumbai and Navi Mumbai — participated in the tournament.


Organisers said the event recorded its highest-ever team participation, with around 950 attendees on the final day.


The South Bombay team emerged as the overall champions, while Kalina B finished runners-up. The Khar team won the men’s football title, while the Others team secured the men’s volleyball championship. South Bombay also won the women’s volleyball title.


Rindhar Makung from Navi Mumbai was adjudged the men’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Obangnenla Pongener from South Bombay received the women’s MVP award.
The programme was supported by Supen Spa, Spice Tribe, Thotrin Cafe, Horshok (The Shinju Shop), FAC News and R Bhardwaj Travels.
NSUM Vice President Phungmichon Hunphun Awungshi and members of the sports committee said the event witnessed overwhelming participation due to the collective longing for peace back home.
